Leaning On A Lonesome Song - Gord Bamford

On June 5, 2011 Gord Bamford’s brother-in-law Cory Mathies took his own life. Gord’s wife Kendra waited until later that night, after filming had wrapped on the music video for Hank Williams Lonesome, to call her husband and tell him about her brother’s sudden and tragic death. In the course of writing and recording the songs for the album, Is It Friday Yet?, Gord often thought of Cory when singing and playing Leaning On A Lonesome Song. Gord writes in the liner notes for the album, “…wrote this song with two singer/songwriters in Nashville; Buddy Owens and Ray Stevens. This song is truly special. I lost my brother-in-law earlier this year and can’t help but think he would be smiling from up above on this one, it was totally a song he would live by and relate to…” This music video is dedicated to Cory Mathies (October 6, 1969 – June 5, 2011).
